The Deir Hanna Valley is one of the most hidden and spectacular corners in Israel. Most of it is dotted with hundreds of thousands of olive trees (among them the oldest in Israel), and above it rise the green Yodfat and Cumin ranges. This is the heart of the Lower Galilee.
From mid-October to the end of November, the harvest takes place here, and entire families go out to the family vineyard and collect the annual crop, on the way to the press.
We will begin the tour in the village of Avtalion in Gush Segev, with coffee at the new “Atra” restaurant against the backdrop of the magnificent view (kosher).
Right next door, Peretz Paz, owner of the “Avtalion” press, is waiting for us. We are right at the end of the harvest season, and after the explanation and fascinating tour that Peretz will give us there, we will be able to purchase a bottle of fresh olive oil to take home.
From here we will drive to the village of Hararit – one of the fascinating lookouts that were established as part of the lookout program in 1980, and against the backdrop of beautiful landscapes we will descend to “Mabad Netufa”, the magical monks’ compound in the heart of the forest.
From here we will continue on a gentle descent to the oldest olive vineyard in Israel, at the southern end of the village. After visiting the site, we will walk to the nearby Ein a-Najma spring, with a spectacular view.
