The ancient organ culture lives and works in Israel, not far from the place where it was founded about 2300 years ago.
An organ is a wind instrument, contrary to what is commonly thought, the sound is created by the flow of air, the keyboard opens valves and passes the air to the flutes.
In the past the air flow was manual and with the arrival of electricity it became mechanical and simpler to play.
Each organ is different from the other, no two organs are the same in terms of the number of flutes, the types of flutes, the operating mechanism and the sound of each organ. The location of the organ is what gives the final character of the organ because it significantly affects its voice and sound.
The organ workshop owned by Uri Shani was established by Gideon Shamir who began building organs in the 1960s. Gideon was and remains the only organ builder in Israel.
Uri Shani, purchased the organ workshop and as of January 2022 is the owner of the business. Uri came from the field of theater where he worked as a director, teacher, lecturer, actor and musical editor. He also worked as a manual laborer in the theater in setting up and setting.
Gideon Shamir still works in the workshop repairing and renovating the organs.
The visit to the Organ visitors center is possible in several languages - Hebrew, Arabic, English, German and French
