Studio Lil: “Local Mythology” — Open Gallery Saturday — July Art Festival
“Local Mythology” ― Artist Liat Gilad from Studio Lil ― Ceramics, Goldsmithing, Art, Material & Spirit, Kibbutz Ga’aton The exhibition will be open for visits from 10 am – 4 pm. Gallery Talk “Local Mythology” & Demonstration Will Take Place at: 10 am & 1 pm In the heart of the Western Galilee Mountains, in a place full of stories and legends, Liat Gilad’s Studio Lil operates ― a creative space where material holds a sign and memory. In her works, Liat creates a personal language of symbols and images that range from amulets, ritual tools, archaeological objects and images from nature and the human body. Inspired by ancient cultures, traditional crafts and natural materials, she builds a contemporary visual world wrapped in layers of time. As part of Open Gallery Saturday, Liat will present an installation in the studio that was created from a dialogue with the theme of the event ― “A Small Piece of Land”. Through objects, symbols, natural materials, and ceremonial images, the installation will examine the connection between man, land, memory, and language. Alongside the installation, an inspiration corner will be built in the studio that will reveal some of the sources of the artist’s visual and material world: objects collected over the years, textures, symbols, natural materials, and images from different cultures ― a kind of personal map of influences that invites visitors to enter the creative process itself. About the Artist & Studio: Liat Gilad creates out of passion, love, and need. A graduate with a master’s degree in advanced crafts from the University of Brighton in England, she has participated in exhibitions across the country and her works have found a home in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and around the world. Liat is a silver and gold jeweler, paints, photographs, weaves, sculpts in clay and earth, writes, and dreams of becoming a musician. The Studio Lil was founded in 2006 and has traveled between different countries and different communities until 4 years ago it settled in Kibbutz Ga’aton. The studio is a place where hands are always working and fingers like threads emerging from the heart, toiling in the quiet act of creation, and the realization of ideas and thoughts in material. Lil Studio offers three main areas of creation: Professional Goldsmith ― pure 14k and 925 silver jewelry, with unique influences with natural stones and specializing in luxurious piercing jewelry. Handmade Ceramics ― sculptural and functional works from black, white and terracotta clay, with an emphasis on rich textures and exposed clay. Combination of natural materials: driftwood, stones, gold leaf, and unique elements. Paintings and Calligraphy ― works in ink and natural materials such as henna, earth colors, and charcoal. When?
