An experience of flavors, a story full of inspiration, a beautiful ancient stone house, and a dream in the heart of the Old City of Akko with Miryam Eik – a woman, kitchen and home that together make its own little world.
Miryam Eik was born and raised in Akko and for years dreamed of living in an ancient house with large windows in the heart of the city. About 22 years ago, the dream became a reality, when her brother purchased a 400-year-old Ottoman house and invited her to fulfill her dream there. Since then, the Yasmine House has become an address for warm hospitality, exciting traditional food and a human encounter full of soul.
On Saturdays, September 13 and September 27 between 1:30 pm and 3 pm, Miryam opens the doors of her home and invites you to come in and eat her homemade delicacies: rice with meat and pine nuts, clay, shulbato, eggplant maqluba, stuffed grape leaves and cabbage, lentils with rice, beans or peas, four salads, a sweet dessert, hot and cold drinks, and coffee.
Listen to her story about the market, the neighbors, her dreams, the path she takes every day, and of course, the house ― with a breathtaking painted ceiling (painted by her brother, the set designer for the Geneva Opera), a mysterious staircase, and an atmosphere that is difficult to explain in words.
