We are pleased to invite you to a gallery talk with the sculptor Varda Yatom, accompanied by curator Asia Dublin, as part of the Ebb & Flow Exhibition, in the Space Gallery at the JNF-USA Information Center in Old Akko.
Varda Yatom, one of the top ceramic sculptors in Israel, lives and creates in Kibbutz Sasa in the Upper Galilee.
The meeting will deal with Varda’s many years of work, in which the sculptural body becomes evidence of brokenness and hope. Together we will dive into unique work processes ― approaches of dismantling and rebuilding ― burning the material, breaking it, and putting it back together again, a combination of clay, stone, leather, and iron.
We will delve deeper into the techniques and processes that accompany her work.
The discourse will touch on topics such as:
At the center of the exhibition is a powerful installation, where lost boats and hanging figures seek a grip on a shaking world.
The meeting will open with the words of the curator and continue with a conversation with the artist, including a joint observation of the installation and questions from the audience.
