The synagogue is located right next to the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai on Mount Meron. Park in the upper parking lot, cross a cattle fence and climb about 50 meters up the path to the synagogue
The synagogue is estimated to date from the Second Temple period (2000 years ago) and all that remains are three gatehouses, pillars and a wall that is in fact a natural rock wall. One of the gates is reinforced, because according to tradition, the Messiah son of David will come when the gate falls. The synagogue was destroyed in 360 and has been used as an observation point ever since.
