Recipe for Sufganiyot Donuts by Shula From Shtula
Ingredients:
- 4 cups flour
- 2 tablespoons yeast
- 3/4 cup sugar
- Lemon and orange zest from half a lemon and orange
- 1/2 cup oil (any kind of oil)
- 4 whole eggs
- 1 cup lukewarm water
- 2 tablespoons liqueur (preferably whiskey)
- 1 teaspoon salt
After Frying:
- Jam, or your preference for filling (custard, Nutella, etc.)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Directions:
- Put all the ingredients, except for salt, in a mixing bowl and turn the mixer on for 10 minutes until a smooth and pleasant dough is obtained.
- Flour your work surface and knead the dough until it doubles in volume.
- On a floured surface place and flatten the dough, but not too thin, around 3 cm thick and make circles according to the size you want (a wine glass works great).
- Meanwhile, heat the frying oil.
- Place 6 dough pieces in the oil and fry until golden brown, about 3 minutes, flipping halfway through frying. Adjust the heat, if necessary, to maintain the oil temperature between 325°F and 350°F.
- Using a slotted spoon, transfer the donuts to the paper towel-lined bowl. Repeat with the remaining donuts.
