Built from massive cut stones, Abirim Fort (Mezad Abirim) dates back 1,500–2,000 years to the Roman-Byzantine period. Reaching the historic site involves a scenic walk through a lush Mediterranean forest of native oaks and seasonal wildflowers.

Climbing atop the ancient stone walls rewards visitors with sweeping, panoramic views across the Upper Galilee landscape.

Directions & Route Information

To reach the site, drive east on Road 89 from Nahariya toward Safed. Shortly before reaching Hurfeish, turn left onto Road 8925 toward Fassuta, Elkosh, and Abirim. Pass Alkosh and Fassuta; just before the main entrance to Abirim, park near the green sign adjacent to the cattle guard. From the trailhead, walk approximately 150 meters to the “Mezad Abirim” sign, turn right, and follow the short path for another 50 meters to reach the ruins.
