Bahá'í Gardens and Sacred Shrine of Akko

The Shrine of Baháʼu'lláh and surrounding Bahjí Gardens—the holiest site worldwide for the Bahá'í community - reopen to the general public as of October 2025 following a reaffirmation of the site's spiritual sanctity and purpose.
This issue, for which the site was closed, has been resolved. Therefore, Bahjí will reopen to visitors for guided tours and self-guided tours, starting in October.
Tours & Visitor Access
You can sign up for guided tours and view Bahjí’s opening hours on the website. As is customary in all Baháʼí sites open to the general public, admission is free.
Historical Background & Sacred Architecture
Located just north of Old Akko, Bahjí was the final residence of Baháʼu’lláh, the founder of the Bahá’í Faith, who lived in the historic Mansion of Bahjí for the last 13 years of his life until his passing in 1892. The adjacent shrine houses his remains and represents the Qiblih – the spiritual focal point toward which Bahá’ís across the globe turn in daily prayer.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the expansive surrounding gardens are designed in concentric radial patterns. They blend formal Persian-style geometric flowerbeds with classical European wrought-iron gates, marble urns, and native Galilean flora such as ancient olive trees, citrus groves, and towering cypresses.
