The Monkey Forest began in the 1970s as a local petting corner for the children of Kibbutz Yodfat. After squirrel monkeys were brought from Belgium, the sanctuary was established with a core belief: keeping monkeys in cages is wrong.

A large, dedicated forest plot was set aside to give them a natural habitat of their own.

The Experience & Philosophy

In 1990, the site grew into an official haven for animals, education, and tourism centered on respect and love. The philosophy holds that animals feel, sense, and deserve to live as close to nature as possible. Visitors are invited to stroll through the forest paths and observe the animals while maintaining their trust, safety, and natural surroundings.

Animals at the Park

The forest is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including:

  • Primates: Squirrel monkeys, crab-eating macaques, green monkeys, lemurs, and capuchins

  • Mammals & Birds: Donkeys, ponies, goats, sheep, emus, ostriches, parrots, ferrets, coatis (nasua), falcons, waterfowl, elk, and deer

  • Reptiles: Sea turtles
