Tom Attias, born in 1980 and comes from a family of artists in the Jerusalem mountains, is a craftsman and artist who specializes in woodcrafts.
He creates his works, artifacts and furniture that he builds with traditional and modern methods using a combination of hand and electric tools. In the studio of Tom Attias, classes and workshops are held under his guidance to learn traditional carpentry and woodwork. Tom learns and draws inspiration from observing the “damage of time” on the material. He has collected and still collects a variety of hand tools from around the world and from all time periods. As a carpenter, Tom designs and creates solid wood using traditional and modern methods, manual and mechanical tools and combines wood connectors and elements of industrial iron.
The furniture is planned and designed by him, in dialogue with his clients as an artist, Tom creates relief panels called by “drawing in wood” resulting from the contours of the growth rings unique to each tree. In reliefs and other sculptures – “Time”, he combines worn and rusty pieces of metal against a background of old wood.
At Tom Attias’ studio in the beautiful Mitzpe Abirim, you can meet an artist who fell in love with trees swept from the sea, be impressed by a variety of new and antique tools hanging in every corner of his studio, enjoy a live demonstration of carpentry and sculpting with hand tools, hear his personal story and take part in workshops.
